Brahman Bhoj

Feeding Brahmins is a revered tradition in Hindu rituals, deeply rooted in the belief that Brahmins, as embodiments of divine knowledge and virtue, carry the blessings of the gods. By offering them a meal, one invites prosperity, health, and happiness into the family’s life (Manusmriti, Chapter 3, Verses 85-94).

During Antyeshti Sanskar, Brahman Bhoj is performed to ensure the peace and fulfilment of the departed soul. It is believed that when Brahmins are honoured with a meal, the soul of the deceased finds solace and is more likely to attain liberation (moksha) (Garuda Purana, Chapter 10).

Pitru Tarpana: Brahman Bhoj during funeral rites also serves to honor the ancestors (Pitru) and seek their blessings for the well-being of their descendants. This act of feeding Brahmins is not only a gesture of respect but also a way to ensure the peace and satisfaction of the departed souls, thereby bestowing prosperity and protection upon the family (Vishnu Purana, Book 3, Chapter 18).
